One Nation Party HQ provided a one page response to Fair Agenda’s Pledge questions. You can read it here.
The response includes their leader Senator Pauline Hanson’s concern about the “lack of resources devoted to adult male victims of such violence”. It indicated elected members would be open to ‘work with stakeholders’ in two of the areas highlighted. But it did not include commitments to any of the specific questions asked.
In relation to abortion care, One Nation HQ indicated that abortion care is treated as a conscience vote for its parliamentary representatives in South Australia (and any personal responses have been recorded accordingly). However, the party’s national website has a page entitled ‘Pro-Life’ and includes material and policy statements that reflect positions commonly promoted by the anti-abortion movement.
For example, One Nation’s website repeats inaccurate claims about the nature of state laws, and indicates the party:
- “Will seek every opportunity to roll back brutal and extreme abortion law…”
- Reduce the gestational limit for abortions.
- Require a woman to have counselling before accessing abortion care.
- allow a doctor’s personal religious beliefs to override a patient’s right to access to information and access to abortion care.
In South Australia, abortion laws have been guided by medical experts, and provide for abortion care after 23 weeks only after 2 doctors agree that continuing the pregnancy poses a risk to the woman’s life, a significant risk to her physical or mental health, or where there is a severe foetal anomaly.
